Today I had a peak at the set of “Public Enemies”, the movie about bank robber John Dillinger that will star Johnny Depp. It is being filmed in Columbus, Wisconsin and directed and produced by University of Wisconsin graduate Michael Mann. So, it’s a pretty big deal around here.
It was a big deal for me because I saw on the way to the Milwaukee Airport in a taxi cab. It was this sight seeing tour that led to my having my very own “travel story”. I guess, when the fog rolls in the taxi’s are there to get you where you cannot go in a plane. Fortunately I borrowed a GPS from a friend at work. (Thanks Julie!) or that wouldn’t be a true statement either. It turns out that a GPS comes in handy when the taxi driver needs to know how to get to Milwaukee. It was a pleasant ride, shared with an Oprah fan (a woman with a Lutheran background who has found religious freedom in an all inclusive spirituality) with a sense of adventure and an aspiring Physical Therapist with a lot on his mind – a single dad, trying to pay the bills and go to school – (this is what led to our detour). Would I trade the times spent learning about Oprah’s father, soup, spirituality through the eyes of “Religious Science” and what it is to be ordinarily very good with directions for what has now turned into 2 hours in a cab + 3 ½ hours in an airport? Oh, I don’t know.
I’ve had time to work on my list of 101 things that I’m going to do in 1001 days. This adventure began on March 1, so it is good to get the list formed. I had extra time to endure the extra security measures that come with running into an airport late and changing fights. I learned that the security guy reads the NIV on his break and was evidently in need of some fingernail polish remover (now, I will be too).
Do I want pizza? The protein bar ingested 30 minutes ago should be kicking in soon to overcome the hunger, right? No, to the pizza. It smells good but looks as if it as been sitting waiting for the next maybe hungry person to come along. How can they do that to UNO’s pizza? There is some major brand violation going on here in the Milwaukee airport. Does one report such things…to what authority?
4hours later:
It is warm here in Nashville. Midwest really does have fresh baked cookies on board, and everyone gets one (that was the one thing today that went as it was foretold). My cell phone battery is nearly depleted of all charge so after I pick up my midsize car, I will set off in search of a battery charger so that I won’t miss the call from Gene informing me of his arrival. Have I said it yet, thank God for GPS!
The boys called and while they were a bit distracted by American Idol in the background – they already want the rocker gal to go home – I gather they are doing well and are spending some quality time with Aunt Sher and Uncle Ter. I smile as I hang up the phone, not sure if the conversation is done until the connection is lost after hearing two renditions of “I love you Mom!”
While on my search for a cell phone charger, I was followed by a homeless man asking for bus money. I told him I would give him money for the bus if he would just be patient and wait for me to make my purchase. He wasn’t able to wait I guess and he began following another man around the store I guess he had no interest in my quest for a cell phone charger.
I will sleep well tonight – in our economy hotel’s full size bed.
One more confession: I watched the show South Park, lastnight (Gene wasn’t home) and found in very amusing.
